FORMATION: The Kumasi Diocese branch of the Association of Methodist Church Choirs – Ghana was formed during a Diocese Conference held at Mampong - Ashanti in July, 1975 after the National one had been formed during a conference held in Accra in April, of the same year. The District Conference which was organized by Bros. K.O. Bedu-Addo, J.R. Quagraine and Sam A. Boison brought together 86 delegates from the 16 Circuits of the District the covering both Ashanti and Brong Ahafo Regions.

FIRST EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE: The following were elected as Officers and Circuits representatives to form the first District Executives Committee of the Association.

INAUGURATION: The Association was inaugurated at a very solemn and most inspiring Church service which rounded off the third Annual Conference held at Berekum in April, 1977, after holding the second one at Obuasi in 1976. The inauguration was performed, at which the Synod Secretary deputized for Rev. J.W. de-Graft Johnson B.A., B.D. M.Th. the then Chairman of the District. The inaugural address was delivered by Bro. Justice S. Kingsley-Nyinah - National Chairman of the Association.

SEPARATION OF THE DISTRICT: The 1979 Conference of the Church granted autonomy to the Brong Ahafo Section of the Kumasi District to become the Sunyani District. The Association also followed suit and so during the 6th Annual conference held at Sunyani in 1980, the Sunyani District Association was also inaugurated. Again, the inauguration was performed by Rev. D.B. Ofori-Rockson D.B. then, Chairman of the Sunyani District on behalf of Rev. I.K. Asuamah-Thompson B.D. : M.A. then Chairman of the Kumasi Diocese with Bro. Justice J. Kinsley-Nyinah the Associaion's National Chairman delivering the inaugural address.

AFTER THE SEPARATION: The separation of the Kumasi and Suyani Diocese has no adverse effect on us in anyway; rather the Association grew larger and stronger than ever before. The Choir has not concerned itself with singing alone as most people think, especially with the organization of singing competitions, but to help with the spiritual upliftment of our members, prayer meetings and retreats as well as Bible Study and Bible Quiz have been incorporated into our programmes and since 1984, inter-circuit Bible Quiz has become a major item on our Conference programmes. talking about singing competition, the Diocesan Choir won the first National Singing Competition organized during the 10th National Conference held in Kumasi in 1984, and defended it successfully the following year at Takoradi. in 1988 and 1990, we placed 3rd and 2nd respectively in similar competitions.

ACHIEVEMENTS: Our achievements in the main, have been in the areas of mobilization, organization, direction and expansion. through our educational programmes, namely: rereats, seminars and workshops at Diocese, Circuits and society levels, the Choirs have been brought into more awareness of their role, rights and responsibilities in the Church in particular and society at large, and are striving hard to attain more heights in standards, and have contributed immensely to the Church's evangelistic crusade in the Diocese. Two of our Diocese Officers have been elected to National Offices. They are Bro. Kow Arthur who was elected to the office of Deputy National Director of Music in 1986 and Bro. Sam A. Boison who has also been elected as 2nd Asst. National Secretary in 1988, after serving the Diocese as Secretary for fourteen (14) years.

CONCLUSION: Special praises and thanks should be given to our Diocese Officers, especially the founding members, as mentioned already, for their immense sacrifices that have sustained the Association up to date. Thanks also go to the devoted Circuit and Society Officers for their hard work at the grassroots. we cannot forget the parental support we have enjoyed from our Diocese Patrons/Patronesses, namely; Dr. R.K. Wilson, Mr. Fred Yaw Nimoh, Mr. and Mrs. D.Y. Opoku, Mad. Cecilia Agyapong, Mad. Agnes Turkson, all of Kumasi, Mr. Francis Poku of Wioso Ashanti and Mr. J.K.P. Wuako of blessed memory.

Our special thanks also go to the Bishop of the Diocese and Synod Secretaries, past and present, Ministers and the entire Church for their spiritual guidance, moral and material support.

It is our prayer and trust that the Association will grow from strength to strength and be able to fulfill its mission within the Diocese and mother Methodist Church - Ghana, with God who has been our help in ages past, still being our help in the years to come.

SERVICE TO GOD.
