Mrs. Mary Arthur
Diocesan President

On 17th July, 1912, the Christ Little Band took root in the Kumasi Wesley Church through a delegation from cape Coast led by Papa K. Egyanka Abraham, who after the inauguration from Cape Coast became the first President (formerly known as “Superintendent”) with Sis. Elizabeth Amonoo- Neizer as secretary.

The pioneer members were Bro. James Clarke, Mr. and Mrs. J.D. Eyeson, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Essandoh, Mr. and Mrs. S.P. Brew, Mr. and Mrs. S.H Yawson, Mr. and Mrs. Jones Prah, Bro. Abraham Matton, Sis. Elizabeth Quainoo, Sis. Sophia Moore, Sis. Araba Paitoo, Mrs. Emelia G. Lanne, Mrs. Elizabeth Amissah, Sis. Mary Koomson, Mr. and Mrs. John Ewusi Brokernan, Mrs. Elizabeth Amissah, Sis. Dorcas Odubah, Rev. and Mrs. F.G. Akuban.

Through their gifts of leadership, they spread the Band to Obuasi in 1943 and then to Obogu but Obogu Band became dysfunctional later on. It was apparent that the two societies, (Wesley Kumasi and Obuasi) worked independently with no regard to the Band’s Motto: “UNITED WE STAND, DIVIDED WE FALL”.

In April 1963, the Kumasi society Band Committee at a special meeting under Superintendence (Presidency) of Bro. I.K. Agyemang (MBE) took the first positive step to work in a closer tie with the Obuasi Band. The decision yielded dividend when Bro. S.W. Karikari the Secretary to the Kumasi Society Band contact the Obuasi Branch. In August 1963, a District Committee was formed with the late Bro. G.O Ewool as its Superintendent and Bro. S.K. Karikari as Secretary. The following member supported the committee.

  • Late Bro. I.K Agyemang (MBE) - Vice Superintendent

  • Late Sis. Mary Osei Kofi - Member, Kumasi
  • Late Sis. Hannah Agyemang - Member, Kumasi
  • Late Sis. Hannah Berkoe - Member, Obuasi.
The membership committee of the District enlarged with the inclusion of the following branches;

  • Kwadaso-1974,
  • Bekwai-1976,
  • Asawasi- 1974,
  • Old Tafo-1974,
  • Fumesua- 1974 and

The Diocese had 41 Societies with 13 Circuits. Later, Obuasi and Effiduase were inaugurated and separated from Kumasi Diocese. The Diocese had the following as Presidents and Secretaries since 1976 till date.
