BRIEF HISTORY
Asawasi Circuit of the Kumasi Diocese became a full Circuit in the year 1978 with two societies. The Circuit was divided into three sections, namely: Asawasi, Amakom and Old Tafo.
The first Superintendent Minister was Rev. P.K.Y. Eshun. Two additional ministers were stationed at Old Tafo and Amakom. The ministerial staff was later increased by one other minister at Bonwire.
Rev. D.C. Mensah succeeded Rev. P.K.Y. Eshun in 1983 , and was relieved by Rev. J.K.K. Sekyi the following year. It was during the time of Rev. J.K.K. Sekyi that Amakom and Old Tafo were seperated from Asawasi Circuit.
Asawasi Circuit then began their onward journey with the following societies: Asawasi, Bonwire, Kenyasi, Buokrom, Anwomaso, Fumesua, Baman, Abira, Oforikrom, Amampe, Adanwomae, Tikrom and Aprade (thus 14 in number). Later 3 more societies were nurtured including Krobo, Wonoo and Antoa.
Over the years the Circuit has grown in number and has seen the nurture and growth of all Organisations that are actively involved in the spiritual advancement of the Church. The Circuit's active service has led to the birth of other Circuits such as New Tafo and Buokrom Estate. The leadership therefore thought it wise to put up a bigger and a more spacious chapel to help accommodate more congregants during major programmes. Work is about sixty percent complete. Currently, societies which fall under Asawase Circuit include Buokrom, Akurem, Asabi, Oforikrom, Kenyasi and Bourban (near Asokore Mampong) which was started not long ago (early 2017). The Circuit records a total membership of about 4600 and is putting in measures to double this number through active evangelism programmes. Some notable ministers who have headed this Circuit include Rt. Rev. Nuh Ben Abubekr (former Bishop of Kumasi Diocese) and Rt. Rev. John De- Graft Priddy (the Current Bishop of Nkawkaw Diocese).
