HISTORY OF MOUNT ZION METHODIST CHURCH, AHINSAN
The formation of Mount Zion Methodist society at Ahinsan was initiated in the year 1951 by a group of singers popularly known as Ministerial Choir. They later decided to worship together since they were all Methodists from various towns.
The group was under the leadership of the late Mr. Alfred Mensah Korsah from Ekumfi Atiwa. They first worshipped in a house offered by the late Mr. Yankey, then a leader at Wesley Society, Kumasi.

MEMBERS OF THE FIRST CHURCH
The first church comprised the following members:

  • Mr. Alfred Mensah Korsah – Leader
  • Mr. Yanke - Leader
  • Mrs. Mary Korsah (alias Mary Andoh)
  • Messrs Owusu
  • Amissah
  • Baidoo
  • Wilson and Madames Akua Broni
  • Elizabeth Addison
  • Hanna Gyamful
  • Mary Quayson
  • Grace Nyame (Adadewa)
  • Gladys Akyene
ACQUISITION OF LAND FOR CHAPEL BUILDING

When the membership began to grow, the late Alfred Mensah Korsah and his leaders decided to acquire a plot of land for the construction of a permanent chapel. The Odikro of Ahinsan gave the society a temporary site near the present Ahinsan community centre. A wooden structure was therefore constructed. Upon persistent appeals to the chief of Ahinsan, a permanent site where the present chapel building is sited was released to the church. We owe the late Opanin Nkrumah, Mary Kwason and the then Odikro Nana Kwabena Nyame many thanks for assisting in acquiring the piece of land. It is rather unfortunate that due to improper documentation, part of the land was lost.

FORMATION OF ORGANISATIONS
A singing band was formed under the leadership of Mr. E. M. Korsah with S. K. Arthur, Rebecca Owusu, Agnes Owusu, Elizabeth Yeboah and Mary Korsah as members. Later the church choir was also formed with Mr. E. K. Korsah again as the choir master. After sometime, Mr. Emmanuel Oppong Fosu took over as the choir master.

In 1969, the society appointed its first leaders namely; Mrs. Florence Owusu, Mad. Hannah Gyamful, the late Alfred Mensah, Mr. Adjei, Op. J. C. Donkor, Mr. Owusu, Mr. John Amoanyi and Mr. Oppong Fosu. For his tremendous financial assistance to the church and individuals alike, the late John Amoanyi was recognized as the “Father” of the church. It was during this same period that Op. Antwi Bosiako now an evangelist of the society was made the society steward, and he ably led the church spiritually and physically.

By dint of hard work, Evangelist Antwi Bosiako was appointed the agent to oversee the Ahinsan area societies namely; Ahinsan, Atonsu, Kaase and the rest. Opanin J. K. Korsah succeeded Evangelist Antwi Bosiako as the society steward after the latter’s new role. When Op. Korsah was transferred to Accra by his employers, Bro. Mark Mensah became the society steward. He combined effectively Bro. James Owusu Danquah now an Evangelist to initiate Discipleship Training Programme to equip the youth of the church spiritually. The “Burning Fire” the major Youth Singing Group sprouted from the Discipleship Training.

When Bro. Mark Mensah left for London, Evengelist James Owusu Danquah took over the stewardship assisted by Bro. Ben Nuamah and J. Oppong Achereko. Following the appointment of Evangelist James Owusu Danwuah as circuit steward and the departure of Bro. Ben Nuamah respectively, Bro. Samuel Owusu Tawiah and Mrs. Janet Baiden Amissah together with Bro. Oppong Achereko took over the stewardship mantle from 1996 to date.

CONFLICT IN THE CHURCH
In 1996 a serious conflict, which nearly marred the reputation and stability of the church ensued between the leaders and some members of the church. Despite efforts to settle the impasse, the conflict ranged on till Very Rev. Edward Ofori Donkor was stationed at Ahinsan and through his hard work, diligence, humility and sense of judgement settled the impasse once and for all.

PASTORAL OVERSIGHT
Rev. Ministers who have provided pastoral oversight for the society include:
  • Rev. D. C. Mensah
  • Rev. Eshun
  • Late Rev. Kofi Sakyi
  • Late Rev. Kojo Edmund
  • Very Rev. S. O. Omane Agyapong
  • Very Rev. Dr. P. K. Boafo
  • Rev. Kusi Appau Bediako
  • Rt. Rev. J. K. Ampie-Addison
  • Very Rev. E. Ofori Donkor

The society has three trained Evangelists namely; Evangelists Antwi Bosiako, J. Owusu Danquah and Lucy Oppong.

Following the stationing of Very Rev. E. Ofori Donkor, the need to construct a Manse became imperative. Without hesitation, the leaders meeting appointed Bros. Owusu Tawiah, John Akuoko, Albert Appiah and Osafo Antwi as project committee members responsible for the delivery of the project.

It is worth mentioning that with the enthusiasm, immense contributions and support from the Very Rev. Ofori Donkor, the entire congregation and the other societies in the circuit, a very beautiful Manse code named “Millennium Manse” has been built over a period of three years.

It is worth mentioning that Gyinyase and Sewua serve under this Circuit.
